Frank Hannon Interview
TESLA on tour with Def Leppard and Poison 2017

If you're an 80s rocker, then you know Tesla is a staple in the rock arena.  14+ records, 30 years of touring, supporting rock legends such as Def Leppard and Poison...Tesla is definitely a staple in your CD archives.  Guitarist, Frank Hannon, has been there for the full ride with the band.

In 1976 at age 10, Frank Hannon found himself idolizing Peter Frampton....his music, his songwriting, he wanted to be just like Peter.  At age 15 he partnered with 18 year old Brian Wheat and that is where it all began.

Now 30 years later, he finds himself coming full circle, being on the same tour with yet again, Def Leppard and Poison.  Tesla embarks on a nationwide tour beginning April 8th and coming to conclusion right here in Indianapolis on June 25th.

KH:  How does it feel to be one of the stable rock bands out there?
FH:  We're pretty stable....but a rocky road, ups and downs, some self-inflicted.  Music is like an ocean, we're the surfers and right now we're on a wave.

KH:  What is one of your favorite things about being in this band?
FH:  The 90 minute shows, our growth, the visual production....the travel, different cities and making friends!

KH:  Tell us what all you contribute to the band.
FH:  Writing the lyrics and music - I do a little bit of everything.  I contribute guitar riffs, chord changes, album titles, graphic design and creating our T-shirts, the website and online store...

KH:  Who were your biggest influences in music?
FH:  Peter Frampton.  Jimi Hendrix, the way he played and looked.  Ronnie Montrose.

KH:  What is your most memorable moment with Tesla?
FH:  In London working on a record over there.  In my 20s, I was healthy, life was fun...  Then the Cotton Bowl in 1987.  It's amazing to be able to play to 200 in a small club and then play to a crowd of 90,000 the next night.

KH:  How does it feel to be supporting Def Leppard and Poison again?
FH:  It feels amazing!  We're very blessed.  I think we earned it - 30 years ago we supported Def Leppard and Poison and to be supporting them again, it came full circle.  It's about the music and the songs.  It's fun, it feels good...
